Grand Cinema is opening soon in Kuwait

In Kuwait there's only one cinema company (KNCC)
The price for regular movie is 3 KD and 3.5KD for a 3D movie.

Now a new cinema company will open in Kuwait, in the Al Hamra Tower, this company is Grand Cinema....YES it's the same one which is operating in Jordan, Lebanon, and UAE.

Now, since i'm living in Kuwait, i am 100% sure there will be no price cut (or maybe for a short limited time only) but why any company would make any price cut? are people demanding this? i mean are people upset with the current situation? the fact is no they're not! if they were upset they'd stop going to the cinema and wait for the prices to go down...but in Kuwait, this is NOT how things are working, Allah have blessed most of the people here (specially Kuwaiti's) with a good income (El7amdolelah) where they can bare high prices, just like when Viva started working in Kuwait they didn't reduce the prices, at the start there was a nice cut of prices but now all 3 telecommunication companies are having almost the same prices...the same scenario will be repeated in the Cinema case...

So here's a brief introduction about how cinemas are working

Cinemas have two options when a new movies come out each method got it's bad and good points:
1st method: Buy the movie

The Bad: VERY VERY expensive!

The good:
A- they can show it over and over and over for unlimited time in their screens and maximize their profit (specially if the movie was good and on high demand!

B- They can re-sell it once the finish showing it

2nd method: RENT the movie

The good:
A-Low price compared to buying it.
B-Risk free! since it's rented movie, if this movie didn't bring money to the cinema they return it and use screens for more successful movie.

The Bad: if the movie is new, it takes sometime for other cinemas to let it go and start renting it.

This is how Cinema's works!

So, if the price did not go down (which i doubt it will) at least both cinemas are going to work better and harder to bring new movies faster!

First of all thanks for the article that brings many critical points to the surface, I share your concerns and you gave a great example regardinh telecom sector with regards to "agreed" tariff policy.

As for people yes they rarely take their complains into action, the same scenario we've seen with restaurants when icreasing prices. I've to say that there's a high possibility that both cinema companies will reach at some point to an agreement for ticket prices,,, but as you highlighted we're also looking forward to services and timing for movies too.

My fingers are crossed that at least Kuwait will start getting new movies faster than the current trend...

Specially the good English movies...
